GLOSS Research is the publishing arm of a research infrastructure built to read primary texts at scale and cite them to the page.
Behind every letter, episode and course is an archive assembled for the purpose: editions acquired under their own access terms, segmented to the printed page, and held so that a quotation can always be traced back to where it sits. The scholarship is by William L. Connelly, a philosopher working in Paris and Atlanta; the infrastructure is his own.
The name is the method. A gloss is the marginal note that explains a hard word or passage in a primary text — the oldest scholarly form there is, and the one this house publishes.
